Polyembryony means, there is presence of more than one embryo within a seed. This occurs due to abnormality during development. It is mostly seen in orange, lemon etc.
Polyembryony is divided into three types
a) Simple polyembryony
b) cleavage polyembryony
c) Adventitive polyembryony
a) Simple polyembryony
It is due to fertilization of more than one eggs in an ovule. These condition developes when an embryosac contains more than one egg cells(true polyembryony). The ovule posses more than one embryosac(false polyembryony)
b) Cleavage Polyembryony
It is cost by spliting of proembryo into two or more parts of spriting of suspensor, everyparts develope into embryo called cleavage polyembryony.
c) Adventitive polyembryony
Formation of additional embryo from different part of ovule and embryosac like synergids, Antipodal etc is called adventitive polyembryony.
