It is a phase in women’s life when ovulation and menstruation stop. It occurs between 45 to 55 years of age. This is due to changes in pituitary gland and hypothalamus. Another cause may be that menopause begins when no follicles are left in the ovary. In fact, decline in estrogen and progesterone levels leads to menopause. At that time women may suffer temporarily depression, hot flashes, and other physiological and psychological problems in menopause. Most of these symptoms can be relieved by taking hormones prescribed by a physician.
